About
About the centre
The Greenwich Peninsula Islamic Centre Charitable Trust is a cornerstone of the local Muslim community. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for worship, learning and social gathering: daily prayers, educational programmes for all ages, and community events that foster unity and spiritual growth in accordance with Islamic principles. We are committed to building bridges of understanding and serving the needs of our diverse congregation and neighbours.
Our mission
To serve the spiritual needs of the Muslim community in Greenwich Peninsula and beyond, fostering a welcoming environment for worship, education and community engagement, guided by the principles of Islam.
The story so far
- June 2025The Trust is launched at an inaugural community meeting on 20 June. Friday prayers continue at the Aperture Building's community space, with a volunteer team running two sessions.
- July 2025A new approach to donations: every gift recorded, counted in pairs and reported. The search for a full-time Imam begins.
- August 2025 onwardsDaily prayer timetables published as the room allows; the first translated khutbahs released; Ramadan 1447 brings nightly Taraweeh and two Eid congregations.
- 2026The GPIC Masjid Fund opens: a ring-fenced capital fund for a permanent sanctuary on the peninsula. The constitution of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation is drafted for registration with the Charity Commission.
Where we are
The centre uses the community and prayer space in the Aperture Building on the Greenwich Peninsula, a short walk from North Greenwich station and The O2, under a booking arrangement with the building's managers. That space has served the community well as a beginning. Relying indefinitely on bookings, estate administrators and shared infrastructure leaves the centre's future in other hands, which is why securing a permanent home is the trustees' first strategic priority.
