Volunteering
Volunteer with us
Every Friday a small team turns a shared community room into a masjid for two congregations and hands it back as they found it. They are the backbone of Jumu'ah, and the people who will build everything the centre plans. Six are needed each week; more means each gives less.
The Friday roles
Set-up and teardown
Mats, chairs, the room divider, shoe racks, signs and the sound system out at 12:30 and away by 14:45.
Welcome and crowd flow
Greeting everyone, counting attendance, closing the doors when the first session fills and guiding people to the library area for the second.
Prayer service coordinator
Supports the Imam: announcements, the microphone, and a hand near the front for anyone who needs it.
Contactless donations assistant
Stands by the donation terminal, explains it, thanks every donor, never touches a card.
Senior volunteer
Blue vest. Makes the calls on the day: capacity, emergencies, lost property, the final walk-through.
Beyond Friday
Teaching, youth work, the sisters' programme, Ramadan nights, fundraising, this website. Say what you can offer.
The full procedure, from conduct and crowd management to emergencies and equipment, is the Friday prayer procedure. Read it before your first shift.
How to join
- Write to [email protected] with your name, which Fridays you can do, and anything you are especially good at, or speak to a senior volunteer after Jumu'ah.
- You will be added to the volunteer group and asked to sign a short volunteer agreement, which sets out what the centre asks of you and what you can expect from it.
- Come at 12:30 on your first Friday, check in at the welcome desk, and you will be paired with someone who knows the ropes.
Roles that involve children or vulnerable adults are subject to checks first. Volunteers are not asked to handle money: donations go through the official channels in the Donation Acceptance Policy.
