New to Islam

Whether you have recently embraced Islam or are exploring it, you are welcome here. Guidance, mentoring and integration support for new Muslims is one of the purposes written into the centre's constitution.

If you are exploring Islam

Come to Jumu'ah, or to any event, and introduce yourself to a volunteer in a blue vest. You can observe respectfully; no one will ask anything of you. Questions are welcome, however basic they feel. If you would rather write first, e-mail [email protected] and the Imam or a trustee will reply.

If you want to accept Islam

The declaration of faith (the shahada) is a simple sentence said sincerely. It can be said at the centre in the company of the Imam and witnesses, and we will give you a certificate if you need one for official purposes. Tell us when you are ready; there is no queue and no ceremony beyond what you want.

After you have accepted Islam

• The basics, at your pace: how to pray, wudu, what the month of Ramadan involves, and the words of the prayer in Arabic with their meaning.
• A companion: someone from the community to sit with at Jumu'ah, answer questions and be a friend.
• Family and work: advice, in confidence, on the conversations that follow.
• Learning on: classes as they open on the education page.
