About
Governance and transparency
Your contributions and your trust are an amanah. This page says who is responsible, what rules we hold ourselves to, and how to hold us to them.
Legal status
The Greenwich Peninsula Islamic Centre is a charitable trust. Its trustees are completing the registration of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) with the Charity Commission for England and Wales; the constitution has been drafted with legal advice and is at the signature stage. The registered charity number will appear here, and in the footer of every page, the day it is issued.
The trustees
The centre is governed by a Board of Trustees, which holds final responsibility for its funds, policies and direction. The Chairman and Treasurer is Yacine Eljazairi. Trustees serve without pay, declare their interests in a register kept by the Board, and are recruited for the skills the charity needs. Appointments to the Board are announced on this site.
Money
- Every donation goes through an official channel: bank transfer, the online donation page, the contactless terminal at the centre, or a sealed donation box. No trustee or volunteer accepts cash by hand.
- Donation boxes are opened by two people together, counted, recorded on a signed form and banked promptly, with the paying-in slip attached to the count.
- Zakat is kept in its own account and distributed only to those entitled to it. The Masjid Fund is ring-fenced for the acquisition, lease or development of a permanent home and is never used for running costs.
- Accounts will be independently examined as the Charity Commission requires, and the annual report and accounts published on this page from the first full year after registration.

Raising a concern or a complaint
Write to [email protected], or to any trustee in person. You will get an acknowledgement, a named person handling it and a reply; where a concern touches a trustee personally, another trustee handles it. Concerns about personal data go to [email protected], and may also be taken to the Information Commissioner's Office. Serious incidents are reported to the Charity Commission as the law requires.
Documents
The constitution, the annual report and accounts, and the trustees' register of interests will be published here as each becomes available. Until then any of them can be requested by e-mail.
